Basecamp Foundation

Based in the Maasai Mara, this non-profit foundation supports Maasai women from the region. Jemimah and Nancy are the two lovely ladies in charge of the artisans that come and work here once a week. 75% of the earnings go directly to the women, the rest is put into purchasing new materials. The women typically use their earnings for food, clothes for their children, health care and school fees. The foundation is not only economically important to the women, they also benefit from the social structure where they can meet as a group, discuss and share ideas. We are happy to have these ladies on board for our MAASAI pieces.
BASECAMP EXPLORER is also one of the only safari lodges that works very closely with the surrounding communities. We had the pleasure of spending a long weekend in one of their camps and experienced the most breathtaking moments on walking and game drive safaris with lions, a mama rhino and her little one, hippos and many more! However, it is not just the incredible nature and its animal kingdom that made our stay such an experience, but also the lovely people working there - good vibes all around.
